Police Investigating Altercation & Assault
Police are investigating two incidents, an altercation which took place in St David’s “involving a group of men, some said to be brandishing bladed articles” in which two men were believed to have been hurt, and an assault in Sandys where a man was “attacked by several men brandishing blunt objects.”
Two Men Believed Hurt in St. George’s Disturbance Treated & Discharged
A police spokesperson said, “Around 1:15am today [July 9th] police officers attended a reported disturbance outside the St. David’s Cricket Club.
“It appears that a function was being held at the premises when an altercation took place in the parking lot involving a group of men, some said to be brandishing bladed articles.
“Two men believed to have been hurt in the incident – thought to be a 36-year-old man and a 23-year-old man – attended the hospital for treatment and were later discharged.
“Police officers at the scene shortly after the incident occurred were only able to ascertain limited information from those in attendance, as the majority were uncooperative.
“Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to call the Criminal Investigation Department on 247-1744 or the independent and anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.
34-Year-Old Man Injured After Sandys Parish Assault Still in Hospital
“Around 2:50am Sunday, July 8th police and fellow first responders attended a reported assault on Cricket Lane in Sandys parish.
“It appears that a 34-year-old Sandys parish man was attacked by several men brandishing blunt objects at the main gate of Somerset Cricket Club.
“He was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance and at last check this morning [July 9th] was recovering in stable condition on a general ward.
“Detectives conducting inquiries regarding the circumstances of this incident have limited leads to go on at this stage but continue their efforts and appeal for any witnesses or persons with relevant information to call the Criminal Investigation Department on 247-1744 or the independent and anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.”

The Executive Management of the St David’s County Cricket Club Inc. would like to take this time to express their sincere regrets in regards to the incident that took place at our facility during the early hours of July 9th 2018. The night’s event was meant to be a tribute celebrating the birthday of a valued and cherished member of our close knit community and our organization who has passed away.
The Executive can confirm that the venue had already been closed down and staff were directing patrons off of the property when the incident occurred. We do not want the community at large to confuse this most unfortunate incident as to mar any positive memory or the reputation of the St David’s Community as a whole. The Management and Membership will not tolerate any antisocial behaviour at the club or in our community. Please be assured that we are assisting the Bermuda Police Service regarding this incident to the fullest of our ability.
The Executive Management of the St David’s County Cricket Club Inc. will continue to strive for the safety of all patrons that come to our facility; that come to our home. As always, we look forward to welcoming the general public to more positive community-based events at our facility.
